Common causes of pediatric blood in the stool

Blood in the stool of children is a common clinical symptom with bright red or dark red blood, which should cause parents to pay great attention to the following common causes.

1, anal fissure Blood in the stool is characterized by drops of fresh blood in the anus, accompanied by dry and hard stools, painful defecation, and crying and restlessness when the child has a bowel movement. If a child has an anal fissure, parents who do not find it in time or handle it improperly, it is easy to produce an anal fissure infection.

2, rectal polyps Blood in the stool is characterized by fresh blood at the end of defecation, small amount, not mixed with feces, polyps usually grow on the mucosa of the intestinal wall, like a lump of flesh with a tip, usually the size of a soybean or fava bean, the location of low polyps, defecation can come out of the anus, as if a red “meatball”.

3, intussusception blood in the stool is characterized by jam-like stool, the right side of the abdomen or transverse colon can be touched a salami-like mass. When children under 1 year old vomiting, paroxysmal crying or blood in the stool, should be highly alert to the possibility of intestinal entrapment.

4.Intestinal torsion mainly manifests as abdominal pain, vomiting, abdominal distension, stopping defecation and exhaustion. Due to the kinking of the intestinal tube, the intestinal wall becomes congested and edematous, and at the same time the permeability of the intestinal wall and capillaries increases, a large amount of bloody exudate seeps into the intestinal and abdominal cavity, and some blood is mixed with the remaining feces below the obstruction and discharged from the body, similar to the blood in stool of other diseases.
