Nasal congestion on lying down is most commonly associated with chronic rhinitis.
Chronic rhinitis is a chronic inflammation that occurs in the mucous membrane and submucous layer of the nasal cavity, can be divided into chronic simple rhinitis, chronic hypertrophic rhinitis. When a person lies down, because the head is in a low position, the nasal mucosa becomes relatively congested, triggering nasal congestion or aggravating it.
The disease may be formed due to repeated attacks of acute rhinitis or incomplete treatment, and delayed; in addition, long-term inhalation of dust, sulphur dioxide, formaldehyde and other irritating substances may also trigger chronic rhinitis, with a tendency to aggravate in cold weather. Patients mainly present with varying degrees of nasal congestion, increased nasal secretions, nasal congestion nasal sounds and decreased sense of smell.
Treatment may include steroid hormones and short-term vasoconstrictor nasal sprays. Surgical treatment may be considered for those who are less successful.
