Why do doctors give antibiotics to patients with unexplained fever before the results of the pathogen culture are available?

Among the causes of unexplained fever in patients, infectious factors are more common.
As pathogenic cultures often take 3-7 days and TB cultures take about 1 month, when the cause is not clear, the doctor may determine whether the fever is infectious based on the specifics of the patient’s fever and the presence of other concomitant symptoms, and take empirical medication first to avoid further aggravation based on factors such as the common causative organisms in the area, and will choose whether to adjust the medication regimen based on the situation after the test results are available or based on whether the empirical medication is effective.
If the patient is stable, empirical use of antibiotics is not recommended for patients with fever pending investigation to avoid the occurrence of drug-resistant bacteria due to misuse of antibiotics.
