What is anovulatory abnormal uterine bleeding?

Anovulatory abnormal uterine bleeding is commonly seen during puberty and the transition to menopause. The main manifestations are menstrual disorders, i.e. loss of normal cycles and self-limiting bleeding. The duration of the bleeding interval varies from a few days to several months; the amount of bleeding varies, from a few drops of bleeding to a lot of bleeding that does not stop on its own, leading to anaemia or shock.
