The cause is not very clear, but the dislodgement of otolith particles in the ellipsoidal sac and balloon can cause irritation to the cell membrane of the semicircular canal when the position of the head changes, resulting in episodes of dizziness with visual rotation in patients. In severe cases, it can even cause nausea and vomiting. The patient’s dizziness may last for a few seconds and not more than a minute. The symptoms can be relieved quickly when the patient’s head is turned to the reverse position or stops moving.2.
