Sudden dizziness for a few seconds and then get better

The sudden onset of dizziness that gradually resolves after a few seconds depends on age and the posture in which the dizziness occurs. If for the elderly, frequent dizziness occurs either standing, sitting or lying flat, relieved after a few seconds, consider whether there is degeneration of vestibular function, i.e., degeneration of the balance apparatus, or transient ischemia from insufficient blood supply to the brain that triggers dizziness. If the dizziness occurs only when lying down or turning around, and the symptoms are relieved after a few seconds, and if the dizziness does not occur when standing, sitting, or walking with spinning vision, consider whether the dizziness is benign positional vertigo, i.e., otoliths. If the dizziness occurs only for a short period of time when turning over in a flat position, it needs to be treated by repositioning, and this condition can be treated in otolaryngology or in neurology. If frequent episodes of dizziness occur regardless of the postural state, a systematic examination is needed to see if the dizziness is caused by peripheral neuropathy or ischemic lesions.
