Bilateral tonsillar enlargement is caused by chronic inflammation of the tonsils, resulting in edema and hyperplasia of the glands, usually secondary to an acute upper respiratory tract infection that does not heal. Most of the pathogens are Streptococcus haemolyticus, which causes enlargement and congestion of the tonsils, with pus moss and pus plugs visible on the surface. If left untreated, the tonsils will continue to swell and the patient will experience dry throat, sore throat, and foreign body sensation in the throat, especially when swallowing. In terms of treatment, tonsillar enlargement requires surgery, which can be performed by tonsil dissection or plasma tonsil ablation. It is also necessary to eat a light diet, eat less spicy and stimulating food, exercise and avoid colds after surgery to avoid recurrence.
