Five major measures to combat AIDS

The full name of AIDS is “Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome”, which was originally translated as AIDS, but it may be misunderstood that love can cause AIDS. Therefore, it was later changed to “AIDS”. AIDS was once called “super cancer” and “killer of the century”, which shows that the danger of AIDS is very serious and the challenge to human medicine is also huge. The disease is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), sometimes called the AIDS virus, which infects the immune system and causes the destruction of the immune system, leading to various infections and malignancies.

The key to AIDS is prevention, and this prevention includes not only self-prevention, but also the prevention of the whole society, which needs the participation of the whole society.

Reach out your hand and give AIDS patients a helping hand In order to raise people’s awareness of AIDS, the World Health Organization has set World AIDS Day on December 1 every year. Each year, UNAIDS, the World Health Organization and its member countries will carry out various kinds of educational activities to promote and popularize the knowledge of AIDS prevention.

People with AIDS are human beings, and they are patients who need care and love. No one wants to get AIDS, no matter how he or she got HIV, he or she needs to be cared for. However, at present, there is a widespread discrimination and fear against AIDS patients in the society. The discrimination and fear originate from the lack of knowledge about AIDS or from the deep moral judgment. Therefore, to eliminate AIDS discrimination, it is necessary to use science to resolve the fear of AIDS in society, and to remove the mental burden of patients from the moral level. But discrimination can lead to a vicious cycle in the AIDS epidemic, especially employment discrimination, which in turn increases the likelihood of HIV transmission. As UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé has said, it is discrimination and discrimination in employment that lead to a vicious cycle. It is the fear of discrimination and stigma that prevents the public from accessing HIV-related information, testing for HIV, or seeking treatment, as Michel Sidibé, Executive Director of UNAIDS, has said. Without access to relevant information and without access to testing and treatment, people living with HIV can intentionally or unintentionally amplify the transmission of HIV in their interactions with others.

Reducing discrimination against people living with and affected by HIV is therefore a key factor in ensuring victory over AIDS. When the rights and interests of HIV-infected people and patients are protected and they enjoy the same rights as normal people in life and employment, it is possible to stop the spread of AIDS and to talk about the realization of social justice. They are also victims, many of them are innocent victims, and they need the care of society. If our society discriminates against people living with HIV or AIDS, they will also hate the society and some of them may want to take revenge on the society and those who discriminate against them, and maybe the next victim will be you and me. So, give care and love to people with AIDS, at least not to discriminate!

Actively study and promote the knowledge of AIDS prevention and control Learn the knowledge of AIDS prevention and control, understand the transmission of AIDS, you will have a correct understanding and awareness of AIDS. Not only will you be able to protect yourself, but you will also not be afraid when you meet someone with AIDS. Once you know about HIV and AIDS, you need to pass on your knowledge to others, so that more people can understand AIDS. If the whole society has knowledge about AIDS prevention and treatment, it will be easier to promote the prevention and treatment of AIDS. I think it is more important to understand the non-transmission route of AIDS, because most of us are not exposed to the real transmission route. As already mentioned above, our daily contact will not transmit HIV, such as sharing toilets, towels, bath towels, bed sheets, bedding, etc. Eating, shaking hands, hugging with HIV-infected people or AIDS patients will not transmit HIV, and even boing with HIV-infected people or AIDS patients will not transmit HIV as long as there are no ulcers in the mouth! So we don’t have to worry about HIV infection in our daily contact. Eliminate extramarital sex Nowadays, the prevalence of HIV in China is still mainly through sexual transmission, so eliminating extramarital sex is the best way to prevent AIDS. The reasons for the occurrence of HIV-phobia are certainly related to its psychological characteristics, which are not the focus of discussion here, but the lack of knowledge about HIV prevention and treatment is also one of the main reasons. The lack of knowledge about AIDS and the lack of understanding of its transmission route leads to blind worry and fear.

The chances of contracting other sexually transmitted diseases, such as non-gonococcal urethritis, gonorrhea, condyloma acuminata, genital herpes, syphilis, etc., are quite high. The chances of contracting these STDs are much higher than contracting HIV. If you have other STDs and then have sex outside of marriage, the chances of contracting HIV are even greater. Especially syphilis, herpes and other diseases that can cause genital ulcers, the chance of HIV infection increases more significantly. All have other STDs do not go out to mix, for the sake of their own health and the health of others, first cure it.

Use condoms firmly Use condoms is the best weapon to prevent HIV infection, especially for gay men, the back is born to provide metabolites into the place, for genital access, the back is too unprofessional, the intestinal mucosa is easily damaged. The condom is not only for your own children and grandchildren, but also for the HIV virus!

According to reports, in the 20 years prior to 1989, the number of STD patients reported in Thai hospitals averaged 200,000 per year. Since the introduction of 100% condoms in entertainment venues in 1990-1991, the number of STD patients has declined at a rate of 50,000 per year, and by 1996, the number of STD patients counted nationwide was less than 10,000 per year; the rate of HIV infection has declined in tandem with the rate of STD infection. Because of the decrease in STD patients, many STD clinics were closed, and even the staff of the STD Division of the Thai Ministry of Health was reduced from 200 to 100. China has conducted a 100% condom pilot in four locations, and the Wuhan pilot showed an increase in condom use among women in prostitution, leading to a decrease in STD transmission from 32% to 17%.

Actively treat other sexually transmitted diseases Other sexually transmitted diseases can facilitate the transmission of HIV, especially those that can cause skin eruptions or ulcers, such as syphilis and genital herpes. If you have these diseases, you should treat them as soon as possible, even if not to prevent HIV infection, but for the sake of your own health and the health of others.

If you have had high-risk behavior in an area with a high prevalence of HIV, i.e., multiple condomless extramarital sex experiences and intravenous drug use as described above, it is advisable to go to a local formal hospital to get tested for HIV. there are now HIV test strips available in the market, which can be used for emergency purposes, but it is advisable to go to a formal hospital for testing. If you are unfortunate enough to be infected with HIV, please do not lose confidence. From HIV infection to AIDS disease, there is an incubation period in between, which is very long, 8-10 years on average. During this period, the HIV-infected person is just like a normal person and cannot be seen by the naked eye as an HIV-infected person. If you adhere to the active treatment during this period and enhance the self fitness, 30-40 years is not a problem. But the premise is to have confidence and not to knock yourself down before you are struck down by the disease! You can consult your local disease control center for specific treatment.
