What are the causes of death in the late stages of AIDS

Patients with AIDS enter the advanced stage of the disease, and because the virus continues to replicate, their immune function is very low during this period, and their CD4 and T-lymphocyte counts are very low. Patients with this condition are very prone to opportunistic infections and malignant tumors. Patients may present with fever, night sweats, diarrhea lasting for more than one month, weight loss of more than 10%, and swollen lymph nodes in several parts of the body. Patients can develop Pneumocystis pneumonia, Cryptococcal meningitis, toxoplasma encephalopathy, Candida albicans esophagitis, herpes zoster, giant cell retinitis, malignant lymphoma, Kaposi’s sarcoma, etc. Most patients eventually die from these opportunistic infections and malignancies.
