The human eye has a certain ability to cleanse and defend itself, so a small amount of hot cigarette ash flying into the eye will not usually cause serious damage. Patients are advised to flush the eye with saline and then observe conservatively, which usually heals itself in 2-3 days. If inflammation of the conjunctiva is induced, active medical examination and intervention with topical medication should be undertaken.
