Why do nasal polyps recur after surgery?

Recently, a patient came to my clinic for a follow-up visit. Back then, he was seen with bilateral nasal congestion, headache and head swelling as the first symptoms, and the examination revealed that the bilateral nasal cavity was full of new polyp-like organisms. The patient told me that he had undergone four nasal polyp surgeries, and all of them were done in big hospitals, and they still kept growing.

Why do nasal polyps keep growing? We believe that this is the result of many factors. Factors of the disease itself, the type of pathology, whether the surgical removal is complete, and so on, are not controllable for the patient. So what should the patient pay attention to after the surgical treatment of nasal polyps?

I think there are several points to note: 1, postoperative follow-up. We have always said that the treatment of nasal polyps surgery is a start, the postoperative follow-up is an important part of the treatment process. What is the main follow-up? In the follow-up process we mainly observe the mucosal changes in the surgical cavity, the formation of vesicles, the local sinus opening is blocked or not, the local tissue adhesions or not, when the problem is found immediately take measures, small problems are dealt with immediately, big problems will not occur. So you can’t ignore the importance of follow-up because there is no problem after several follow-up visits, no more follow-up visits, the disease will develop, small holes are not patched, big holes are worried!

2, postoperative medication. Why should we use drugs? The main role of drugs is to reduce the formation of postoperative vesicles, increase the movement of nasal mucous membrane cilia, promote the discharge of mucus, and speed up postoperative recovery.

The patient mentioned above has been followed up for nearly 13 months after surgery, and there is no sign of recurrence after active follow-up and medication, and the patient has been exclaiming that the surgery is still well done in your hospital. The patient has been exclaiming that your hospital is still doing a good job.
