There are actually two main types of cervical spondylosis, the spinal cord type of cervical spondylosis, and the nerve root type, or a mixture of the two. In China, scholars have added two other types to the list: sympathetic and vertebral artery, but there has been a debate about the classification of these two types. Our main surgical treatment is also for the first two types, namely the cervical spinal cord type, and the neurogenic type, and the surgical results are indeed reliable. The clinical manifestations of the cervical spinal cord type are: numbness and weakness in the upper limbs, lower limbs, or extremities, stiffness, inflexibility, a feeling of stepping on cotton on the soles of the feet, a feeling of being tied up in the chest and abdomen (like a feeling of being tied up in something), or dysfunctional bowel movements. The main manifestations of cervical spondylosis nerve root type are: pain in the upper extremity or shoulder back, scurrying numbness, weakness of one upper extremity, or muscle atrophy, etc. This type can be treated conservatively first, and some patients can be relieved, if not effective, surgery is recommended, and the prognosis is better. As for the sympathetic nerve type of cervical spondylosis, vertebral artery type: the clinical manifestations are diverse, including vertigo, blurred vision, palpitation, chest tightness, shortness of breath, hand numbness and so on. It usually requires differential diagnosis with many internal medicine, otorhinolaryngology and neurology disorders. If the symptoms are relieved, it is recommended to have a cervical spine functional radiograph and MRI of the cervical spine, and in some cases, MRI of the thoracic spine, and then to decide whether to use surgery according to the specific condition. After the diagnosis is made, the decision to use surgery will be based on the specific condition. For cervical discogenic pain: pain in the back of the neck and shoulders, which is referred pain, aggravated by upright activities and relieved after rest. MRI of the cervical spine shows significant degeneration of the cervical spine MRI, which shows a black disc. At present, conservative is recommended, and if the pain is obviously severe and affects life, disc replacement surgery or fixed fusion surgery is also feasible.
