“Frostbite in winter and summer

As the saying goes, “Once you get frostbite, you get frostbite every year.” Once frostbite is formed, it is painful in the cold and itchy in the heat, and there is no special treatment available. How is frostbite formed? Frostbite is a limited bruising inflammatory skin disease caused by cold. When the temperature falls below 10°C, the small subcutaneous arteries contract in the cold, the venous blood flow is poor, the local skin is deprived of blood and oxygen, and the metabolism is deranged. The local skin becomes red and purple with lumps, itchy or tingling, and more obvious when exposed to heat, followed by blisters, erosion and even tissue necrosis. According to Chinese medicine, frostbite is caused by a deficiency of kidney yang or weakness of qi and blood, and the cold evil attacking the skin does not overcome its coldness. In mild cases, the skin and veins are stagnant and become swollen as spots; in severe cases, the muscles, veins and blood are stagnant and inaccessible, and when they are infected with evil toxins, the cold will turn into heat, and the flesh will be rotten and collapse. Features of Traditional Chinese Medicine – Winter and Summer Treatment We combine the theory of treating untreated diseases in Chinese medicine with the features of winter and summer treatment. According to the laws of life activities, physiology and pathology of the human body, which are influenced and regulated by the laws of nature, the cold climate in winter causes stagnation of the veins of frostbite patients, and as the weather gradually warms up, the qi and blood in the veins of the human body flourish, the blood circulation is smooth, and frostbite enters “hibernation period” and fewer attacks. It is at this time that the balance of yin and yang in the body is adjusted through proper internal or external medication to promote the healing of frostbite. On the contrary, if treatment is given when frostbite flares up, it is often “temporary” and “distant water does not quench the thirst of the near” and the treatment is not as effective as desired. Therefore, for the treatment of frostbite, we should advocate “winter and summer treatment”. The summer treatment of frostbite is simple and quick, and the time is relatively flexible. It can be chosen during any one to two weeks of the three volt period, and is easily accepted by patients. For many years, the Department of Dermatology at Shuguang Hospital has insisted on adopting the “winter and summer treatment” method for patients with frostbite and has achieved satisfactory results. The methods are as follows: before and after the volcano, according to the patient’s individual situation, the overall dialectical treatment of Chinese medicine is carried out, and methods such as benefiting Qi and invigorating blood, invigorating blood circulation, warming the meridians and dispersing cold, and removing dampness and circulation are used respectively. In addition, we can also give Chinese herbal medicines such as Gui Zhi, Hsio Xin, Angelica Sinensis and Safflower to invigorate the blood and warm the meridians, make a decoction of 1000 ml and dip the previously affected area into the soup at about 40℃, rubbing it while soaking, 1-2 times a day. Family prescriptions It is important to treat frostbite in winter and summer under the dialectical treatment of a professional physician, but some home remedies for frostbite in winter and summer are also effective and can be taken into account. 1. Frostbite prevention: Once frostbite occurs, it is often difficult to heal quickly during the cold season and will only gradually heal after the weather turns warm. 1. Use warming products as early as possible: In late fall and early winter, when the weather is not too cold or when there is a rapid change in temperature, you should keep your exposed skin warm and wear a mask, gloves and ear muffs when you go out. In addition, you can apply some grease on the exposed skin to reduce heat loss. 2, moisture: moisture can accelerate the loss of heat in the body, so you should always keep your clothes, shoes and socks dry; if it is impossible to avoid moisture due to work needs, you can apply some petroleum jelly to the contact parts first. 3, pay attention to the size of shoes and socks should be loose and tight, shoes, socks and gloves should not be too tight, too small, so as not to affect blood circulation. 4.When returning from the outdoors, do not immediately roast the fire or soak the limbs in hot water, but let the limbs reheat naturally. 5, strengthen the skin exercise, enhance the ability to adapt to the cold, usually repeatedly rub hands, ears and face; do local (good frostbite place) skin massage every day to promote blood circulation and reduce the occurrence of frostbite. During the day, strengthen physical exercise suitable for your condition, such as qigong, dancing, rope skipping and other activities. 6. For those who have frostbite, increase the intake of vitamins A, C and minerals in January before winter, and take appropriate amounts of niacinamide tablets and calcium tablets orally to improve the body’s cold tolerance.
