Who is suitable for keratoconus surgery?
18-50 years old, 100-1200 degrees of myopia, 100-500 degrees of hyperopia, less than 500 degrees of astigmatism, stable refractive status, no other eye diseases, no serious systemic diseases, female patients avoid pregnancy and lactation.
Is this surgery safe?
The principle of keratomileusis is to change the refractive power of the cornea by laser cutting, thus treating refractive error. This type of surgery has been performed for more than 30 years and has been clinically proven to be safe and effective. However, a small chance of serious complications cannot be ruled out.
What should I do before surgery?
Patients should stop wearing contact lenses as required and have a thorough eye examination, including a dilated eye exam that takes about an hour or so.
If you have a dry eye, blepharitis or other eye disease prior to surgery, you should have it treated before undergoing keratoconus surgery.
Does wearing contact lenses affect the examination and surgery?
Soft contact lenses can be checked initially and operated on at a later date after 2 weeks of discontinuation; however, hard contact lenses need to be checked after 3 weeks of lens removal; and keratoconus lenses (i.e., OK lenses) need to be removed for more than 1 month before they can be checked.
How long does the surgery take? Does it hurt?
The procedure takes only a few minutes. Eye drops are used for surface anesthesia and the procedure is usually painless.
What discomfort may I experience after surgery? What should I be aware of?
You may experience mild foreign body sensation, tearing, and photophobia after surgery. You should not rub your eyes in the early post-operative period, follow the doctor’s instructions for medication, and have regular follow-up examinations.
How soon can I work normally after surgery?
Usually, most patients can use their eyes normally the day after surgery, and the complete recovery will take about 1-2 weeks, or longer if there are individual differences.
What are the long-term results of the surgery? Will I still have myopia afterwards?
According to the design and treatment principles of the surgery, the results should last a lifetime. However, due to individual differences and other factors, regression of myopia cannot be ruled out. Moreover, the surgery only eliminates the existing myopia, but does not have any effect on the fundus changes caused by myopia.
Therefore, patients still need to maintain healthy and good eye habits after surgery.
What should I pay attention to after surgery?
1.After surgery, you should use eye medication according to the doctor’s prescription on time, do not use other eye drops for yourself.
2. Pay attention to eye hygiene within one week after surgery, avoid entering water and rubbing eyes. To prevent bacteria from entering the eye and causing bacterial infection. Swimming is not recommended for 6 months after surgery.
4.Reduce the number and time of blowing air conditioners. In the air conditioning environment, the air is relatively dry, long blowing air conditioning and do not pay attention to maintenance is easy to dry eyes.
5.Control the time of using computer and electronic products. After the post-operative review, patients can use their eyes normally, but do not operate the computer for a long time, the operation should stop for 5-10 minutes around 45 minutes – an hour to rest.
6.Eat more fruits and vegetables. Especially citrus fruits and green vegetables, grains, fish and eggs.
7, adjust the distance position of the fluorescent screen. The distance between the eyes and the fluorescent screen is preferably 50-70 cm, and the fluorescent screen should be slightly lower than the horizontal position of the eyes 10-20 cm, with a lower perspective of 15-20 degrees. Because the angle and distance can reduce the demand for refraction and reduce the chances of eye fatigue.
8, maintain good habits, sleep enough, do not stay up late. Especially before going to bed, do not turn off the lights and lie in bed to play with the phone in the dark.
9.After superficial surgery, avoid ultraviolet radiation and wear sunglasses in the sun for one year.
10.Do not do eye makeup or beauty treatment for 3 months to 6 months after surgery.
