Gluteus contracture hip stiffness can be treated

It is a great happiness to be able to sit down and read a book Little Dengfei is a handsome and sunny young man, but because of some tricky disease, he cannot walk like an ordinary person, and even if he walks on the flat ground, he still limps, but he still holds the confidence that he can cure the disease and seeks medical help. When he was four years old, his parents noticed that he was squatting with his right leg stretched backwards as far as possible, then holding the ground with his right hand and picking things with his left. The doctor there recommended him to go to Shanghai Xinhua Hospital, which is nationally known for its treatment of pediatric diseases. In the same year, he underwent surgery at New Year’s Hospital. The family thought that little Dengfei would recover well after the surgery, but the results were unacceptable, because after the cast was removed, little Dengfei could no longer sit and read like a normal child, and he had a hard time walking, as he seemed to have forgotten how to walk, and the walk he regained was as clumsy as a duck. From the time little Dengfei was four years old, the family’s harmonious and happy life was gone, replaced by running around seeking medical treatment for little Dengfei’s illness. Twelve years have passed, and Dengfei has grown into a sturdy teenager, but his inability to sit on his hips and walk normally has not been solved at all. Whenever he saw others sitting quietly in the classroom reading books or playing on the basketball court or chasing and playing on the playground, his longing eyes always left tears of loneliness and helplessness. 12 years, his parents carried him all over half of China, seeking medical treatment everywhere, from Zhuji to Hangzhou, from Hangzhou to Shanghai, from Shanghai to Beijing, and most of the hospitals he visited were famous hospitals in China, and the specialists in these hospitals were very surprised to see little Dengfei’s “hip problem”. The specialists at these hospitals were at their wits’ end with the problem of “gluteus contracture, pelvic deformity and right hip stiffness”. When the family was about to despair, a famous orthopedic specialist from a military hospital told them, “Go to Beijing Huaxin Hospital to find Director Nie Yuanxin, if he can’t cure your disease, no one in China can”. Therefore, they came to Beijing Huaxin Hospital with a ray of hope. After Professor Nie Yuanxin carefully examined the body and studied the imaging data, he found that there was a large amount of scar-like lesions around the right hip joint, which wrapped around the sciatic nerve and the blood vessels supplying the femoral head, and it was very difficult to remove the scar and release the hip joint without damaging the blood supply to the femoral head and the sciatic nerve. After discussing with Professor Daniel Porter, a renowned British orthopaedic surgeon who also works at our hospital, the two professors were able to provide a thorough understanding of the operation. Early in the morning of August 1, 2014, in an operating room at Beijing Huaxin Hospital, two top orthopedic specialists operated on little Dengfei, and the residents were dazzled by their excellent surgical skills and familiarity with the subtle anatomy of the human body. Little Dengfei’s family spent these two hours in a tense atmosphere. As Little Dengfei recovered day by day after the surgery, the hip joint that could not be flexed at all could be flexed and normalized, and not only could sit and read a book like a normal person, but also could cross their legs. The family was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude, exclaiming their admiration for Professor Nie Yuanxin’s and Professor Porter’s excellent medical skills and noble medical ethics. Prof. Nie Yuanxin and Prof. Porter said, “Prof. Porter and I have been practicing medicine for decades, but we have rarely encountered such a complicated case as Xiao Dengfei’s. There were a lot of scar tissues around the sciatic nerve and the hip joint, and these lesions were very dense and tightly adhered to the nerve and blood vessels. The balance between the two requires not only a good knowledge of the local structure but also a high level of surgical technique. All in all, we are very happy to see that little Dengfei is recovering well after surgery and can sit and read in the classroom like a normal child. It is our duty to save lives and help patients to get rid of their pain, and we will continue to “seek and seek” to overcome one difficult problem after another in medicine.
