Vocal fold nodules, also known as singer’s nodules, are formed by inflammatory lesions and are a type of chronic laryngitis. It refers to symmetrical nodular hyperplasia at the junction of the anterior middle 1/3 of the vocal folds on both sides, which hinders the closure of the vocal folds and leads to low and coarse voice, or even hoarseness and loss of voice. The main symptoms are hoarseness, dryness and pain in the throat. In the early stage, the high tone ruptures, the voice is easily fatigued and does not last, and the low tone does not change. Later, it gradually worsens and becomes hoarse due to the rupture of most tones. In larger nodules, there is significant hoarseness, which develops from intermittent to persistent, and the patient has difficulty singing and cannot speak loudly. Vocal cord nodules are often caused by improper or excessive use of the voice over a long period of time. It is common in boys and adult women who love to speak, and is especially common in professional larynx users such as teachers in large classes, soprano singers who sing beyond their natural range, vegetable sellers, telephone operators, etc. The laryngoscopy reveals small pale bumps in the anterior middle third of the vocal folds on both sides, translucent, with a smooth surface and small blood vessels visible at the base, which prevent the vocal folds from closing during vocalization. The first 2/3 of the vocal folds are membranous tissue, which is involved in the vibration of the vocal folds, and the next 1/3 is arytenoid cartilage, which is responsible for the opening and closing of the vocal folds. Vocal fold nodules are treated in the following ways: 1. Abstain from sound, rest the vocal folds, pay attention to vocal rest, talk less, and absolutely abstain from sound if necessary. Early nodules can often disappear. 2, pronunciation training is mainly to change the original wrong habits of the voice, improve the pronunciation skills, otherwise the disease is easy to recur. 3. Avoid smoking, alcohol and stimulating food. 4, steroid hormone, antibiotic drugs nebulized inhalation, physical therapy also have auxiliary effect. Drug treatment can be used corticosteroids and antibiotics. Oral Chinese medicine QingYinJiu or laryngeal pills. Where conservative treatment is ineffective and interferes with the voice, it should be surgically removed. 5.Surgical removal is suitable for larger nodules (or polyps), which are not effective after a period of medication and obstruct the voice, and can be removed under indirect or direct laryngoscopy. Children with vocal cord nodules may disappear on their own during adolescence, so there is no need to rush for surgical removal. Small nodules should be operated under microlaryngoscopy to minimize damage to the vocal cords. The postoperative vocal rest should not be too long, about 1 week is appropriate. The early start of non-tensile vocalization can make the residual mucosa covering the vocal ligaments vibrate freely and promote motor healing of the vocal folds. Vocal cord nodules should be treated early, otherwise, the longer it takes, the greater the chance of seriousness. In general, after the treatment of vocal cord nodules, attention should also be paid to proper voice training. 1. do not use your voice excessively. 2. actors should not eat too much before singing or teachers should not teach. 3. change your habits. 4. change your habit of clearing your voice. 5. it is better to abstain from voice for more than 1-2 weeks after vocal cord nodule surgery. 6. pay attention to voice rest when you have a cold. 7. teach children not to shout. 8. hoarseness often occurs when the laryngeal muscle is fatigued. 8. Hoarseness often occurs when the laryngeal muscle is fatigued. To prevent the occurrence of vocal cord nodules, professionals who sing and speak too much should avoid singing or speaking loudly for a long time, especially during the flu and the menstrual period of female comrades, and should pay attention to prevent vocal fatigue.
