There is no unified view on whether to apply glucocorticoid therapy for chronic glomerulonephritis in China and abroad, and it is generally not advocated. Thylakoid proliferative nephritis, which manifests as nephrotic syndrome, may respond well to hormones, and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and membranous nephropathy may be effective for hormones. Depending on the type of pathology such as normal or only mildly impaired renal function, normal renal volume, and urine protein ≥2.0g/24h, glucocorticoid therapy can be tried if there are no contraindications. However, the efficacy and side effects should be closely observed and gradually withdrawn if ineffective.
