To find out if you have AIDS, you need to have a blood test for HIV antibodies, or you can buy your own HIV test strips to test for HIV. If the corresponding test is negative, you can rule out that you are HIV positive. If you cannot tell whether you have AIDS simply by the symptoms and cannot rule out the possibility that you have AIDS, you can go to the hospital to have your blood drawn and tested for HIV antibodies. If you have had behavior in the recent past that may have infected you with AIDS, you need to know the concept of window period. The window period for AIDS refers to the period of time after you have been infected with AIDS when you may not be able to detect HIV antibodies. If only the HIV antibody test is used, it takes twelve weeks to pass the window period, and if the test is negative after twelve weeks or more, HIV can be ruled out. If you use the p24 antigen combined with the HIV antibody test, you can shorten the window period and test after six weeks, and the result will be negative, then you can rule out AIDS.
