Can ultrasound see cleft lip and palate?

Cleft lip and palate refers to the presence of cleft lip and cleft palate, and is a relatively common malformation of the fetal oral system during pregnancy. The most important way to screen for cleft lip and palate during pregnancy is to observe the fetal facial structure for abnormalities through the ultrasound system. 95% or more of cleft lip and palate can be seen through ultrasound, but if the cleft lip and palate is small or the fetus is in an inappropriate position, sometimes ultrasound is difficult to diagnose. If the position is inappropriate, you should move appropriately to promote fetal turning and continue screening for cleft lip and palate by ultrasound. If there is only a suspicion of possible cleft lip and palate, a review by an experienced ultrasonographer or an MRI should be performed to confirm the presence of cleft lip and palate.
