What is Excimer Laser Myopia Surgery

Excimer laser myopia surgery mainly refers to the application of excimer laser means to correct myopia by cutting the stromal layer of the cornea and changing the radius of curvature of the cornea. It can be divided into two categories, one is superficial cutting and the other is lamellar cutting. At present, with the advancement of science, more surgical procedures have emerged clinically, such as excimer laser epithelial subflap keratomileusis, mechanical excimer laser epithelial subflap keratomileusis, and anterior elastic sublayer laser keratomileusis. The requirements for excimer laser surgery are relatively strict. First, the patient must be at least 18 years old and have a stable refractive error. Secondly, patients need to go to the hospital for a comprehensive examination, including intraocular pressure, corneal thickness, and retina, before the surgery. Finally, if the patient has a combination of severe dry eye, cone cornea, or a tendency to cone cornea, recurrent corneal disease, viral keratitis, high intraocular pressure disorder, and severe systemic connective tissue disease, etc., excimer surgery treatment cannot be performed. Some complications may occur with excimer laser surgery, such as dry eye, refractive regression, postoperative glare, poor quality of night vision, or corneal-related complications.
