A few questions from patients about soft tissue expanders for the treatment of scarring

The question of the length of time of burial is one of the most important concerns among patients with scars who have received expanders, always wanting to know the exact duration of the procedure. There are several influencing factors, which I will briefly list here in the hope that it will help in understanding our choice of surgery time. First of all, generally speaking, the dilator has to be buried for three or four months, which is the average time of doing statistics in the population, that is to say, it is the theoretical time, and specifically to the individual, we have to take into account the scar area, skin tightness, and your expectation of the postoperative effect. Simply put, if the scar is large, it will take longer; if the skin is loose, it will be faster; the expander can usually reach 2 to 3 times the original volume, and if you think about it, you will know whether double or triple expansion will be better. The skin requirement before stage II surgery is relatively thin, and since the skin will retract after surgery, more skin is better. In addition, people with medical knowledge will be aware of the individual differences between people: the same treatment technique, some friends can easily achieve good results, some can not, as a treatment provider, always keep a cautious attitude, sensitive foresight, step by step, to ensure the safety of treatment. Taking into account the differences and minimizing the impact of all controllable factors, it takes time and patience to work towards the “best results” for our friends. Then, from the economic point of view, many scarred friends are not rich people, always want to spend the least amount of money, a time to do the most things, so a longer time, a time to achieve the best results is best, and the cost of doing so is the price of time to be more. In each person’s individual case, some have work or study problems, so some intentionally delay their second surgery, and stop the water for a period of time, so that the skin becomes thicker, and then hit the water, so that out of the skin more. Finally, from the doctor’s point of view, any doctor seeks the perfect treatment results, and is responsible for each friend. I don’t use the word “patient” here because there is a difference between a group of scar victims and patients. In the attitude of a friend to face the patient, do not be presumptuous, uphold a scientific and rational attitude, inform friends of the risks in the treatment process, as far as possible to restore the original appearance, is the doctor’s greatest wish, but also the goal of hard work.
