Causes of sciatica compressing leg pain and numbness

The main feature of sciatica is the pain in the leg caused by irritation of the nerve, which can also cause numbness if the nerve is edematous due to prolonged entrapment. The characteristics of sciatica compression causing leg pain and numbness are usually radiating along the middle of the buttock to the back of the thigh, in the direction of the sciatic nerve travel, with significant irritation pain. In addition to local muscle adhesions and compression, there is a strong relationship with lumbar spine pathology, especially disc herniation, lumbar spine slippage, and spinal stenosis. Continuous irritation of the nerve roots causing the aforementioned radiating pain should be treated according to the examination, starting from the etiology, to relieve the nerve root edema and reduce the inflammatory irritation, thus achieving pain relief. If it is very serious, physical therapy, bed rest or even surgery may also be required.
