People with type 1 diabetes who consistently experience hypoglycemia may be on inadequate medications and may be more aware of self-management as well as adjustments in therapy. Once type 1 diabetes is diagnosed, insulin therapy should be started and lifelong replacement therapy is needed, but the treatment plan needs to be individualized to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia. Patients with type 1 diabetes have absolute insulin deficiency and are prone to hypoglycemia. Patients should acquire diabetes self-management skills, carry sugar cubes in their pockets, replenish sugar in time during hypoglycemic episodes, monitor their blood glucose regularly, and actively seek medical attention to adjust the treatment regimen under the guidance of the doctor.
