Traumatic mouth ulcers need to be treated both symptomatically and causally. Traumatic mouth ulcers can be caused by a variety of factors and require symptomatic treatment and elimination of the cause to restore health.
Traumatic mouth ulcers can be broadly divided into physical and chemical injuries.
For physical injuries, the first step is to eliminate the chronic irritation of the oral mucosa by hard objects. Common treatments include extracting and repairing stubby roots and crowns, polishing cusps and cutting ridges. Then, anti-inflammatory drugs and painkillers should be used as prescribed by the doctor.
For chemical injuries: the first step is to neutralise the corrosive material on the oral mucosa by rinsing and rubbing the affected area with a neutralising solution, followed by topical ointments, powders and sprays for gradual recovery.
