Am I a good candidate for laser surgery?

The continuous updating of surgical techniques and equipment, especially the application of femtosecond laser, has further improved the safety, accuracy and predictability of surgery, making corneal laser surgery truly enter the “blade-free era”. Although the safety and efficacy of the procedure are well recognized, a thorough preoperative examination and a strict grasp of the indications and contraindications for the procedure are still essential to its success. Here we will look at the indications for the two main surgical procedures. Indications for lamellar refractive surgery: 1. The person has the will to remove the lens and has reasonable expectations of the surgical result. 2, age ≥ 18 years old (except for special circumstances: such as career requirements, high refractive index, corneal disease requiring laser treatment, etc.). 3.The refractive status is basically stable (myopic refractive error growth is not more than 0.50D per year) for more than 2 years. 4, refractive error: myopia ≤-12.00D, astigmatism ≤-6.00D, hyperopia ≤-6.00D. The sum of myopia and astigmatism of SMILE surgery ≤-10.00D. Indications for superficial corneal refractive surgery: 1, basically the same as lamellar surgery, recommended refractive error ≤-8.00D. 2, special occupational needs, such as athletes with strong confrontation, armed forces, etc. 3.The special conditions such as thin cornea, small lid fissure, and deep eye sockets are not easy to perform lamellar surgery. 4, augmentation surgery is expected to be too thin for the remaining stroma, while the thickness of the corneal flap is sufficient. 5, superficial corneal disease accompanied by refractive error.
