The ankle joint is the joint between the bones of the lower leg and the foot, commonly known as the “neck of the foot”. The ankle joint is an important weight-bearing joint in the body. The ankle joint consists of the tibia (the thick bone on the inside of the calf), the fibula (the relatively thin bone on the outside of the calf) and the talus bone. The inward and downward protrusions of the bones at the point where the lower end of the tibia meets the foot are the medial ankle and the posterior ankle, respectively. The inner and outer ankles play an important role in stabilizing the ankle joint. The ankle joint is small compared with other parts of the body, and the bones of the ankle and foot are relatively fragile and lack muscle protection, but it bears the weight of the whole body and maintains the balance of the body. Therefore, during sports, the ankle joint is very prone to inversion and valgus ligament injury and lower tibiofibular joint ligament injury due to indirect or direct violence, and in serious cases, it leads to ligament attachment point avulsion fracture, articular cartilage injury or ankle fracture. It is the most easily injured joint in the human body. The ligaments and cartilage are poorly nourished by blood flow and do not heal easily after injury, which can easily lead to chronic diseases such as ankle synovitis and ankle osteoarthropathy, affecting weight bearing and walking. In addition to congenital and genetic factors, ligament damage to the ankle joint is the main cause of ankle joint disorders. Therefore, before running and exercising, it is necessary to prepare the ankle joint, choose suitable and comfortable shoes, and pay attention to walking posture to reduce the risk of ankle injury.
