Loratadine is a highly effective and long-lasting tricyclic antihistamine (anti-allergic) drug that works to relieve symptoms caused by allergic reactions. All symptoms caused by allergies are rapidly relieved after taking the drug. Loratadine is used to relieve the nasal symptoms of allergic rhinitis such as sneezing, runny nose, nasal itching, nasal congestion, and itching and burning sensation in the eyes. It is also indicated for the relief of signs and symptoms of chronic urticaria, pruritic dermatoses and other allergic skin diseases. This product, together with ketoconazole, macrolide antibiotics, cimetidine and theophylline, will increase the concentration of loratadine in the plasma. It should be used with caution. Other drugs that are known to inhibit hepatic metabolism should be combined with caution until interaction with loratadine is clarified. At the recommended dose of 10 mg per day, no significant sedative effect of this product has been observed. In adults, drowsiness, tachycardia and headache have been observed after overdose (40 mg – 180 mg). In children, overdose of this product (>10 mg) has been associated with extra-pyramidal signs and palpitations. Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity or idiosyncrasy to any of the components of this product.
