Early attention to eye discomfort

55-year-old Ms. Li, for the past one or two weeks, apparently felt redness in her left eye, as if there was sand rubbing against her eye, but when she looked in the mirror, she did not find any sand sticking to her eye. Although her eyes were uncomfortable, she stayed up, hoping it would get better, but a few days passed and not only did it not get better, but some yellow discharge started to appear in the corner of her eyes. Mr. Zhang, 32, had a similar problem, and his eyes felt almost the same as Ms. Li’s mentioned above. At the eye clinic, the ophthalmologist carefully examined both of Ms. Li’s eyes under a slit lamp microscope. Pulling the lower eyelid of the left eye, at the junction of the lower eyelid and the eyeball, which is the innermost part of the lower eyelid (conjunctival sac), two eyelashes stuck together were found lying there, surrounded by a yellow, sticky discharge. The doctor gently removed the eyelashes with a wet cotton swab and prescribed antibiotic eye drops for Ms. Li (Figure 1); using the same method, the doctor treated Mr. Zhang’s eye and removed a clump of hair from Mr. Zhang’s eye (Figure 2). Figure 1 Figure 2 reminder: eye redness, itchy eyes, tearing and other eye discomfort, early eye examination, to find the cause, early treatment, do not brace yourself, take it for granted that “boil a little” will be good.
