“Cross-eyed” and “brain damage”

When you see someone else’s child with a pair of “cross-eyes”, you will think it’s cute, but if it happens to your own baby, it’s really worrying. If mom and dad find out their baby has crossed eyes, they will most likely go to the ophthalmologist first, but you may not think you are making the mistake of “treating the head when it hurts”. The scientific name of “cross-eyed” is “intraocular strabismus”, a kind of eye muscle coordination disorder, which may cause amblyopia and other visual impairment, which is not so terrible in itself, and can be corrected by a small surgery at the age of a few years in the ophthalmology department, but if the ” But if “crossed eyes” is the early manifestation of “brain damage”, then we should be especially careful. The normal baby 3-4 months because of the inflexible eye movement, there will be physiological eyes, but by 5-6 months there is still, it should be vigilant. The eyes are the windows to the soul, and poor eyesight is like dust on an otherwise clean window, preventing cute babies from better understanding the world they live in. Common vision problems caused by brain injury include intraocular strabismus (i.e., crossed eyes), exotropia, nystagmus, sunset eyes, and in more severe cases, cortical blindness, where there is only light perception but no vision. Intraocular strabismus, exotropia, and nystagmus are brain injury-induced eye muscle coordination disorders; increased intracranial pressure from hydrocephalus can cause sunset eyes; cortical blindness is a sign of severe damage to the visual center of the occipital cortex of the brain; some premature babies also have retinal dysplasia and optic nerve atrophy. Normal babies are born with poor vision and can only see objects at a distance of about 20cm, too close and too far to see, and are most interested in human faces. As the baby slowly grows up, the baby’s vision is also progressing rapidly, to 2 months old baby also has a short chasing action, but still can not see far, eat and drink may be a faint smile, 3-4 months old child has been able to flexible chasing, and can better interact with the poop and mama, smiling and dancing is the mama’s favorite scene, as the baby gets bigger and bigger, the baby’s eyes are getting better and better. But if a “brain injury” caused by the above vision problems, everything has changed. Babies may not be able to follow the eyes, can not laugh, grow up to be stupid and abnormal, and some will even spend their lives in the dark. All this may change to a great extent if the “brain injury” is treated in time. If your baby or the babies of your acquaintances have any of these visual impairments, along with certain motor delays and a history of oxygen deprivation, it is important to remind them to seek medical attention to rule out “brain damage” in order to get the best treatment for your baby and give them a better tomorrow.
