What is the long protocol of IVF?

The ovulation process is an important step in the IVF process and is critical to obtaining high quality eggs with good developmental potential. The basic principle of ovulation promotion is to take advantage of the developmental potential of a group of eggs in a menstrual cycle, and to give enough follicle stimulating hormone to support the growth of all the follicles, to break the competition between them and to promote the maturation of a group of eggs, so that they do not die due to lack of sufficient follicle stimulating hormone. The ovulation process is therefore a waste process rather than a depletion of eggs that will develop in the next few months or even a year. The most classic ovulation protocol with the highest success rate is the long protocol. The dose and number of days are determined by the physician according to the number of sinus follicle reserves in the patient’s ovaries and her weight. The long protocol is characterized by better uniformity of follicle size and maturity, more high quality eggs retrieved, and a higher success rate of fresh egg retrieval cycles for transfer. The current success rate of fresh embryo transfer in the long protocol is about 60% in our center.
