To determine if the pain in the armpit is caused by breast cancer, apart from palpating the breast lump, which is usually hard and not smooth on the surface, a histopathological examination of the lump is often required and if cancerous tissue is found, the diagnosis of breast cancer can be made.
Patients presenting with breast pain should not be overly concerned as benign breast disease can also cause pain.
