KDIGO, Improving Prognosis in Global Kidney Disease Organization

The Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO), a nonprofit organization independent of any established medical organization, is led by an international Board of Directors (Table 2). KDIGO is led by an international Board of Directors (Table 2). The Board is composed primarily of nephrologists from around the world, but also includes medical experts from multidisciplinary backgrounds, with Chinese representation on the KDIGO Board. The Executive Committee, elected by all members, plans and oversees the work of KDIGO, and is chaired by two KDIGO members. Jiangchao Feng, Department of Nephrology, Affiliated Hospital of Chuanbei Medical College
KDIGO appointed the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) as its governing body because, NKF has accumulated a wealth of professional experience in assisting in the development of the Kidney Disease Patient Quality of Life (KDOQI) guidelines.
Its mission is clear: to improve the standard of care and prognosis of patients with kidney disease worldwide by promoting and coordinating worldwide collaboration, integrating existing efforts, and developing clinical practice guidelines for patients with chronic kidney disease, and disseminating them in different regions of the world. KDIGO has led the way in the development of global kidney disease guidelines with its multidisciplinary and international team of experts, high level of professional evidence-based review teams, well-defined grading methods, strict and objective recommendation levels, and open and transparent review methods. 7 years of KDIGO’s achievements have resulted in 3 officially published guidelines, with 2 more to be published soon (Table 1).
