If the lung infection is more serious, the principle of treatment should be to choose broad-spectrum powerful antibacterial drugs, and should be used in sufficient quantity and in combination. β-lactams can be used, combined with macrolides or respiratory quinolones, for example, piperacillin sulbactam sodium, combined with levofloxacin or moxifloxacin, or cefoperazone sodium sulbactam sodium or carbapenems, such as meropenem. All of these drugs are more effective for severe lung infections. Vancomycin and linezolid can be used in combination if staphylococcal infection is suspected. Lung infections are serious and must be treated promptly to avoid delays.
