Does blood sugar rise in lung infections?

Pneumonia can cause elevated blood glucose, so when a patient has elevated blood glucose due to pneumonia, the dosage of hypoglycemic agents should be increased, and when the patient’s infection is controlled the dosage of hypoglycemic agents needs to be reduced to keep blood glucose within a reasonable range. At the same time, it is necessary to take relevant medications for treatment according to the causative microorganism of the pneumonia caused, for example, the patient presents with coughing up yellow sputum, increased white blood cells, C-reactive protein and calcitoninogen. Pneumonia caused by bacterial infection should be treated with antibiotics, such as cefixime, amoxicillin, azithromycin, and levofloxacin. If the patient has decreased white blood cells, interstitial pneumonia on lung CT, and positive viral antibodies, the clinical consideration is viral pneumonia, which requires antiviral, antipyretic, and symptomatic treatment.
