Uterine polyp symptoms and precursors are not present in some people and are only detected during a physical examination, while others may experience abnormal uterine bleeding, which manifests itself in heavy menstrual periods and bleeding again after the period has cleared.
Uterine polyps are mostly overgrowth of the uterine lining that forms polyp-like tissue in the uterine cavity. Usually, the polyps are small and some women have no symptoms, but only found during routine medical checkups and ultrasounds, especially after menstruation and when the endometrium is thin.
However, if the polyp is larger or the endometrial hyperplasia is thicker, heavy menstrual flow with blood clots and prolonged menstrual period will occur. In some cases, bleeding may occur after the period has cleared. It is recommended to seek medical attention for such abnormal bleeding.
