Coughing up yellow phlegm and hoarseness

Coughing up yellow sputum and hoarseness may be related to acute laryngitis, severe acute obstructive laryngotracheitis and other laryngeal diseases, lung cancer and other neoplastic diseases. 1. Acute laryngitis: edema and congestion of the laryngeal mucosa caused by viral infection can result in hoarseness caused by poor closure of the vocal cords; secondary bacterial infection can increase laryngeal secretions and cough up yellow sputum. 2. Heavy acute obstructive laryngotracheitis: acute diffuse inflammation of larynx, trachea and bronchial mucosa, coughing up yellow sputum when infected with hemolytic streptococcus, staphylococcus aureus, streptococcus pneumoniae, influenza bacillus, etc. Heavy patients may have coughing sound, sometimes like barking, slightly hoarse voice, persistent and progressive inspiratory dyspnea and wheezing, and cyanosis may occur. 2. Lung cancer and other tumor diseases can be repeated lung infections, manifested as fever, cough, sometimes coughing yellow pus sputum, and also invade the recurrent laryngeal nerve, which can cause hoarseness. It is suggested that people who cough up yellow sputum with hoarse voice should consult doctor in time, clarify the cause of the disease, and carry out standardized treatment under doctor’s guidance, so as to avoid delaying the condition.
