For acne vulgaris, oral retinoids can significantly inhibit the secretion of sebaceous glands, regulate the abnormal keratinisation of the sebaceous ducts of hair follicles, improve the anaerobic environment of hair follicles, thus reducing the reproduction of Propionibacterium acnes, as well as having an anti-inflammatory effect and preventing scar formation. Retinoids such as adapalene and tazarotene can be applied at bedtime. Adapalene is better tolerated and is usually used as a first-line medication, or oral isotretinoin and vincristine can also be taken.
