If pinpoint-sized papules appear on the face in dense patches on top of large red patches, along with significant symptoms of itchy, dry skin, the possibility of allergic dermatitis needs to be considered. Patients may have scratch marks on the skin surface and signs of skin breakdown, such as inflammatory skin exudation and flaking.
