Introduction to Refractive Lens Implantation Surgery for Myopia Correction

ICL – posterior chamber IOL implantation in crystalline eyes is now considered to be the latest technology that can replace excimer and femtosecond laser cutting surgery for refractive correction, and is one of the newest and safest products for the correction of high myopia, and is now widely accepted and used by ophthalmologists worldwide. ICL can be used to correct a wide range of myopia, hyperopia (there is no farsightedness correction lens in China) and astigmatism without removing or destroying corneal tissue and without the need for post-surgical sutures. It also allows for predictable refractive correction and superior visual quality. In particular, it is significantly more effective than excimer laser surgery in the treatment of high myopia over 800 degrees. Especially for some patients with thin corneas and high corneal curvature who are not suitable for excimer laser surgery is the best and safe choice to get rid of glasses completely. The raw material of ICL is the collagen polyproducts produced exclusively by STAAR, which consists of small amounts of purified collagen polymerized with good compatibility and no adverse reactions in the eye. ICL has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration of the People’s Republic of China and is permitted to enter the Chinese medical device product market. The V4C central hole posterior chamber type refractive IOL currently used in China has been fully synchronized with those used in Europe and the United States.
