Conservative Treatment of Slant Neck

The baby’s squint is mostly caused by the following reasons: 1) muscular squint: caused by tension in the sternocleidomastoid muscle (masses can be seen in the neck during the neonatal period); 2) bony squint: cervical hemivertebrae or atlantoaxial subluxation; 3) ocular squint: strabismus; 4) habitual squint. The treatment described in this article is limited to myelomeningocele, so other causes of myelomeningocele should be excluded first. Conservative treatment methods are as follows: 1. Hot compress: apply a hot towel to the place where the lump is located, the temperature of the towel should not burn the skin on the inside of the arm, and pay attention to avoid burns. 2.Massage: first of all, parents should find the muscle bundle where the lump is located, feel the direction of the muscle bundle alignment (from the sternocleidomastoid fossa, i.e. the lateral side of the depression in the middle of the neck to the bony protrusion behind the ear, i.e. the mastoid direction), massage the sternocleidomastoid muscle with the finger belly, first from the sternal head up to the mastoid, and then from the top down repeatedly, 4-5 groups per day, more than 100 times per group. 3.Wrench the head: wrench the lower jaw to the affected side, while favoring the top of the head to the healthy side, keeping the sternocleidomastoid muscle on the affected side in a stretched state. During the period of conservative treatment, regular review should be conducted in order to evaluate the treatment effect, and surgery may still be required if necessary.
