Preservation methods of severed fingers I. Ice bucket method The severed finger is simply washed with saline to clean the epidermal contaminants and then wrapped in 6-8 layers of clean gauze and placed in a dry, sealed plastic bag. Then put this bag into an ice bucket (insulated bucket). After filling the bag with ice, cover the bucket with a lid; send it to a hospital with replantation conditions along with the patient. Ice plastic bag method The severed finger body is simply cleaned with physiological saline and then wrapped with 6-8 layers of clean gauze and put into a sealed plastic bag, then put the plastic bag into a plastic bag with ice and tie the bag closed, and send it to a hospital with replantation conditions together with the patient. If the patient’s injury is serious and the patient’s general condition is poor enough to withstand the replantation surgery, the severed finger body can be preserved in a sealed plastic bag with saline soaked gauze for up to 96 hours in a 4-degree refrigeration, and then replantation is still possible.
