HIV infection is likely to present with similar symptoms of hairy white patches, which usually occur on the outer edge of the tongue, while anal white patches usually occur near the perianal area, with a clear distinction in the location of the white patches. The symptoms of HIV infection are not specific and one cannot conclude that one is infected with HIV based on simple symptoms. Currently, the only diagnosis of HIV is based on an HIV antibody test.
