Some patients with halo nevi in outpatient clinics are often not very clear about treatment. A halo nevus is a change in pigment loss around a nevus, suggesting that some inflammatory or immune response may have occurred. The exact cause is not very clear at this time. Treatment requires a distinction between two conditions. Multiple halo nevi in adolescents often do not require special treatment and can be observed, and many can fade naturally. If isolated halo nevi occur in adults, excisional biopsy is preferable to exclude melanoma.
