What is “red-eye”?

”Red eye” is the common name of “epidemic conjunctivitis”, a common eye disease, most of which is caused by microbial infections such as bacteria or viruses, from the onset of the epidemic infection is mainly a viral infection, but due to the disease does not pay attention to eye hygiene, such as: rubbing Eye, and the combination of bacterial infection. “Red eye is highly contagious and has a short incubation period. Patients have a foreign body sensation, burning sensation, itching, stinging pain, eyelid edema, redness of the eyes due to conjunctival congestion or hemorrhage, increased secretions, and in severe cases, keratitis with photophobia and tearing. It often occurs in both eyes simultaneously or sequentially. Only a few people have fever and enlarged lymph nodes. ”Red eye is contagious by contact, not by air, so looking at each other does not cause infection. The patient is contagious before healing, the method of prevention is: try not to touch the “red eye” people touched objects, if you must touch, then afterwards must wash your hands with soap and water, if possible, you can disinfect your hands, do not rub your eyes with your hands, especially do not use the inner surface of your fingers and palms and other easily contaminated parts to rub the eye, of course, more Do not share hand towels, handkerchiefs and basins with patients. There are no effective eye drops to prevent the disease, so don’t try to prevent it by using eye drops to avoid contact with the eye by dirty hands, which increases the chance of infection. There is no specific treatment for “pink eye” and anti-inflammatory eye drops are usually used to reduce the symptoms and shorten the course of the disease. An effective method is to alternate antibacterial eye drops (such as norfloxacin, ofloxacin, tobramycin eye drops, etc.) with anti-toxic eye drops (such as virazole, acyclovir, hydroxybendazole, interferon eye drops). If the discharge is high and the congestion and edema are obvious but the cornea is not involved, a small amount of steroid hormone can be added to the eye drops to significantly reduce the symptoms. Treatment of this disease does not require infusion, but if there are complications, infusion therapy is available.
