Characteristics of trigeminal neuralgia

The so-called No. 1 pain in the world refers to trigeminal neuralgia. This pain is so severe that it seriously affects the quality of life of patients and even makes them incapable of working. The trigeminal nerve is responsible for three parts of the face: the forehead, the cheek and the jaw, which are connected from the corners of the eyes and the mouth to the ear hole on the same side. Each part is innervated by a specific nerve, and the nerve that innervates these three parts is the trigeminal nerve. The nerve that innervates these three parts is the trigeminal nerve. What are the characteristics of trigeminal neuralgia According to the different causes, trigeminal neuralgia is divided into two categories: primary and secondary. Its onset is characterized as follows: 1. It occurs mostly in middle-aged and elderly people, slightly more in women than in men, and more on the right than on the left. Some elderly people should be highly alert to the occurrence of trigeminal neuralgia when their faces suddenly appear like lightning or electric shock when they eat, talk, wash their faces, brush their teeth, or even yawn. 2. Trigeminal neuralgia often starts from a certain branch of the trigeminal nerve and gradually spreads to other branches, and the pain is mostly distributed along the rows of the nerve. 3. More than half of the patients have one or more sensitive points to touch and pressure in the attack area. A very slight movement touching this sensitive point may cause a trigeminal neuralgia attack. Therefore, doctors imaginatively call these sensitive points “trigger points”. Trigeminal neuralgia patient precautions 1, wash your face and brush your teeth with warm water, avoid cold water to stimulate the skin of the onset area. 2, choose soft and easy to bite food, quit smoking and alcohol, and eat less spicy food to avoid strong stimulation to trigger pain. 3. Pay attention to climate change and avoid stimulation of the face by wind and cold weather. Wear a mask or headband when going out. 4. Maintain an optimistic and cheerful mood to avoid triggering pain. How to treat trigeminal neuralgia Medication is available. For patients who are not well controlled by medication or cannot tolerate the side effects of medication, the small nerve that conducts pain can be blocked with specific medication to interrupt the pain signal transmission. Surgery can be treated by radiofrequency thermocoagulation. The patient also suffers less pain.
