The treatment of primary mediastinal tumors varies according to whether the primary mediastinal tumor is benign or malignant, and usually adopts surgery or radiotherapy.
Once diagnosed, most primary mediastinal tumors should be treated with surgery if there is no contraindication; if the malignant tumor is unresectable, radiotherapy or chemotherapy can be given; malignant lymphoid tumors are sensitive to radiotherapy, and radiotherapy should be given first.
1. Benign primary mediastinal tumors: such as retrosternal goiter, thyroid tumor, etc., if there is no contraindication, then all of them should be treated surgically.
2. Malignant primary mediastinal tumors: 10% of teratomas are malignant tumors and can be given radiotherapy or chemotherapy if they cannot be removed. And malignant lymphoid-derived tumors are sensitive to radiotherapy and should be treated with radiotherapy first, which is not suitable for surgical treatment.
If the patient, once diagnosed, is found to have a primary mediastinal tumor, he should actively cooperate with the doctor’s treatment and follow the doctor’s instructions.
