HPV infection mainly causes proliferative lesions of the human epidermis and mucous membrane, for example, high-risk HPV (type 16, 18, etc.) can cause intraepithelial lesions in the vagina and cervix and is associated with the development of malignant tumours such as cervical cancer; low-risk HPV (type 6, 11, etc.) can cause genital acromegaly. Low-risk HPV (types 6 and 11) can cause genital warts (a sexually transmitted disease).
HPV infection is very common and there is no need to be alarmed by it.
