Arachnoid cyst shunts do not necessarily carry a tube for life after surgery; shunts may be removed

Cyst-abdominal shunt is the most definitive and effective method for treating arachnoid cysts, which can shrink cysts by more than 90% or even disappear in the majority of patients, with small surgery, less bleeding, less than 10 ml, and short surgery time, in about 40 minutes, making it the most minimally invasive of the current treatment methods. However, because of the belief that all of them will carry tubes for life, many people have concerns and turn to fistula and stripping surgery with poor results and high risks, as a result, many people spend money and suffer, but the cysts are not much smaller, and some people even have paraplegia, coma and pay the price of life. Since 1998, Ma Zhenyu and I have been the first to perform abdominal shunts for arachnoid cysts in China, and we have performed hundreds of cases, and most patients have been cured and are now returning one after another to have their shunts removed. Our experience proves that after arachnoid cyst shunt, it is not necessary to carry the tube for life, after all, this operation is only 14 years old at present, and it has to be observed, and the patient can be removed at an opportune time, and there have been some children who had their shunts removed successfully after the cysts disappeared, and the cysts did not recur, and they work and live as normal people.
