Arachnoid cysts 1.4 cm usually do not require treatment if they are asymptomatic, while some patients with arachnoid cysts that rupture or bleed require emergency surgery.
Arachnoid cysts are congenital malformations and most arachnoid cysts are asymptomatic. In adult patients who are asymptomatic and do not have a space-occupying lesion, treatment is usually not necessary, regardless of the location or size of the lesion.
If the arachnoid cyst lesion is in the acute phase, intracapsular hemorrhage, cyst rupture, and subdural hemorrhage may occur, requiring emergency surgery. Commonly used surgical procedures include drilling for drainage and cyst aspiration, endoscopic surgery, and craniotomy. Rigorous preoperative evaluation is required for each individual case to select the most appropriate surgical approach.
The treatment of arachnoid cysts requires the guidance of a specialized neurosurgeon, and patients are advised to seek prompt medical attention.
