Nocturnal enuresis in men is more likely to be the result of urethral disease, prostate disease, and bladder disease. With normal water intake, a male patient who has more than two bowel movements per night may be considered to have nocturnal polyuria, which is most often caused by pathological factors, as detailed below.
Firstly, urethral diseases. A series of urological diseases represented by urethritis and some sexually transmitted diseases may stimulate the urethra, causing patients to have the urge to urinate and inducing symptoms of increased nocturnal urination.
Secondly, acute prostatitis, chronic prostatitis and prostatic hyperplasia are common causes of nocturnal polyuria and need to be promptly treated by medication or even require surgical intervention for relief;.
Thirdly, bladder diseases such as acute and chronic bacterial cystitis, poor bladder compliance and reduced contractile function can lead to abnormal urination such as frequent, urgent and painful urination, and symptoms of increased nocturia can be seen clinically in such patients.
